Admission Criteria


  • Minimum overall GPA 2.500

Current UB students seeking admission to the Intercultural and Global Competency micro-credential should submit the Global Programs application form.

Course Requirements


Intercultural and Global Competency Core (3 credits)


  • Completion of 3-credit-hour global experience course. Course number will vary depending on your level of study and geographic region of interest.
  • Each course will include at least one country-specific team project, journaling of experiences and a reflection paper.

Total Credits Required for Micro-Credential: 3


Academic Requirements


  • Requirements vary by program.
  • To be considered, you must submit a completed application, updated résumé, personal statement and unofficial transcripts
  • Interviews are conducted to identify students who are the right fit and appreciative of different cultures and perspectives, and engaged and open to different ways of learning and solving problems. This is an experiential program where you must be able to step outside your comfort zone and engage with peers from a different country and culture.
  • Overall GPA of 2.5 is required at the time of application. If your GPA currently falls below a 2.5, address this in your personal statement by indicating your plan to increase it prior to participating in the program.

Learning Outcomes


After completing the micro-credential in Intercultural and Global Competency, students will be able to: 

  • Learn about organizations that exemplify social innovation and entrepreneurial leadership, history, culture and business environments while working on projects specific to each country
  • Strengthen their understanding of core skill sets and its application in the global environment
  • meet with leaders and entrepreneurs to deepen their knowledge of economic development, social innovation and community engagement
