GLY 407LEC - Geological Field Training Applied field methods in geology. This course is conducted outdoors and requires walking over difficult terrain and some exposure to the elements. Western Field Training (even numbered years): Geologic field trips and mapping from a mobile base in the western United States. Mapping projects include deposits in Colorado and areas of increasingly complex sedimentary structure in Utah and occasionally Wyoming. Local Field Training (odd-numbered years): Geologic field trips, mapping, and analyses of field data based primarily out of UB’s campus. Projects depend on specific faculty but may include descriptions of bedrock exposures in Western New York, hydrogeological field measurement, analysis of near-surface geology using geophysical techniques, and mapping complex igneous or metamorphic rocks in New England.
