BIO 387LEC - Communicating in Biological Sciences

This course is designed to introduce students to the ways that biologists communicate, both with each other and with the broader public. The focus will be threefold: 1) describing data, 2) describing process & product, and 3) presenting biology. Assignments in each sections are designed to improve skills with scientific styles and modes of expression. The aim is to foster confidence in a scientific style of communication - which is often quite different from that taught in the humanities. Conciseness, clarity, and exactness are the hallmarks of successful written and oral in this course. By completing Communicating in Biological Sciences students will develop these traits in their written and oral expression.
