CEP 200LEC - Introduction to the Counseling Professions


This course provides an overview of the counseling careers, including but not limited to mental health counseling, counseling or school psychology, rehabilitation counseling, school counseling and social work. Settings include schools, hospitals, community mental health centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, and hospitals. We will explore the values and characteristics of counselors and what core competencies are essential to becoming an effective professional counselor across diverse settings. The course explores the pressing professional issues and challenges currently facing counselors.
