HIS 205LEC - History of the Islamic World

History of Islamic World traces the main building blocks of the Islamic civilization from the rise of a small community of believers in 7th century Arabia under a prophet called Muhammad to the fall of the great city of Constantinople to the powerful Ottoman Turks in 1453, to the age of industrialization, colonialism, and contemporary global dynamics. Through a study of foundational texts and leading scholarship, we examine the major shifts and transformations, sociopolitical and religious institutions to gain a deeper insight into the histories and cultures of the greater Islamic world.
