ASL 111DIS - First-Year American Sign Language 1st Semester


ASL 111 is designed to introduce American Sign Language (ASL) to students with little to no prior exposure. The course serves as the first semester of the first year of ASL instruction and aims to introduce students to the language, literature, culture, and community of people who use ASL. It focuses on developing the foundational skills needed to comprehend and construct short content-specific conversations in ASL, including statements, questions, and commands. In addition, the course provides students with opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of ASL vocabulary, classifiers, phrases, grammatical structures, and non-manual markers for various purposes in various contexts, as well as to develop their fingerspelling and numerical skills.
