HIS 343LEC - Indonesia: From Colonialism to Dictatorship The course examines Indonesian history from the beginnings of the nationalist movement in the early twentieth century, through the Japanese occupation during World War Two and the anti-colonial revolution that followed it. It then looks at the decline of constitutional democracy and the subsequent establishment of martial law, as well as the tragic killings in the mid-1960s that led to the rise of the 32-year long regime of President Suharto.
