PSC 334SEM - Model European Union

The European Union (EU) is one of the most important intergovernmental organizations in world politics. It is an unparalleled example of peaceful cooperation in economic, social and foreign policy. It is also an important global actor in its own right.  In this course, students will “play/represent” European leaders in two different multi-day in-class simulations.  The goal for each simulation is for EU representatives (played by students) to negotiate policy that will apply to the entire EU.  In addition, during short lectures at the beginning of class and through short readings, students will be introduced to the workings of the EU institutions such as the Council, the Commission, the Parliament and the Court of Justice.  No prior Political Science background is needed for this course.  Just bring an interest in politics, current events, and a willingness to debate with other students!  Students who take part in this course will also likely have the option to attend Model European Union simulations with other university students in Brussels or NYC during winter break.
