ASL 305LEC - Third-Year American Sign Language 1st Semester

ASL 305 is intended to serve as first semester of a third year of ASL instruction. This course builds on skills learned in ASL 204, expanding student’s ASL vocabulary, classifiers, grammatical structures, and non manual markers through dialogues, presentations, and narratives. Students will be given opportunities to increase accuracy and fluency in different features of ASL such as onomatopoeia, indicating verbs, temporal aspect, personification, anthropomorphism, and time-related phrases. The use of practice tactics to appropriately begin and end a narrative in ASL will be emphasized. Examining an original narrative in ASL will enhance student’s comprehension and appreciation of ASL literature and provide them with an insight into the experience of ASL people. The local, national, and global perspectives and contributions of the historical and current contexts of the
ASL community will be discussed.
