BIO 100LEC - Foundations of Cell Biology

In this course we will apply evidence-based learning strategies to foundational concepts in cell and molecular biology. Topics covered include the chemical basis of life, structure-function relationships of the biological macromolecules, cell evolution, and cell structure. Preference will be given to students who have resigned BIO 200 and/or have received an F for their BIO 200 mid-semester grade. Course intentions: The goal of the course is to give students who resign BIO 200 and are planning to take BIO 201 the skills they need to succeed if they continue in Biology. Because it serves as preparation for success in BIO 201 (and later BIO 200), it should be a 100-level course. This course (BIO 100) will be taught in the 2nd half of Fall semester when the majority of at-risk students can be caught, and, through advising, we will recommend that students who are resigning BIO 200 and plan to continue to BIO 201 in Spring be registered.
