NUS 715LEC - Synthesizing Syndemics, Nursing Science and Health Policy This course prepares PhD students to examine syndemics, the framework for explaining the patterns of comorbid diseases that are exacerbated by health inequities associated with economic stability, education access and quality, health care access and quality, neighborhood and built environment, effects of climate change on health and the conduct of global and rural health, and social and community context. We examine pathways through which these differences are produced and reinforced, including structural and interpersonal discrimination, stigma, non-conscious bias, social network processes, and socioeconomic policies. Focus is placed on developing student abilities to integrate nursing research exploring PhD student¿s particular developing core knowledge area of related science, creative innovation, and inclusive approaches to develop nursing science to address health challenges in diverse populations and inform health policy.
