GEO 543LEC - Weather and the Atmosphere

An understanding of the processes that control the atmosphere contributes to our understanding of how our planet works, why particular weather events occur, and how we can anticipate the future. Particular topics include convection, clouds, and various forms of precipitation, the circulation of wind from small to global scales, extreme events like thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes, and the atmospheric chemistry of air pollution. Students develop an understanding of atmospheric science, the current state of our understanding of various processes, and the ability to critically read and listen to popular science articles and talks on the subject.
