CEP 694LEC - Interventions for Academic Skills

This course is designed to provide a structured exploration of academic skills including reading and writing processes and theory, as well as diagnostic and corrective reading and writing strategies. Academic skills (e.g., reading and writing processes) will be covered in tandem with diagnostic and corrective techniques. Diagnostic and corrective programs, tests and measurements, factors that affect performance, reading difficulties and disabilities, and corrective reading strategies will be reviewed. An emphasis is placed on empirical support for academic practices. Further, students will learn, practice, and master the application and reporting of informal assessment techniques, RTI, as well as standardized measures such as the GORT-IV and CTOPP. Students will learn how to develop a complete reading diagnosis and report. We will review cases and theories discussing the implications of the interface.
