EE 539LEC - Princ Infor Theory & Cod Information plays a major role in day-to-day life. We store information, communicate information, search and process information; with our cell phones, computers, TVs, and more. Information is everywhere. This course presents the mathematical foundation for the study of information in the context of communication. We will explore the concept of information through the mathematical lens of probability theory. The course introduces information measures such as entropy, mutual information, and differential entropy; studies the design of communication schemes to be used over noisy channels (channel coding and error correction); and analyzes optimal methods for data compression (source coding).
