This course is designed to provide assistance to students in writing their Dissertation in Practice (DiP) during the third and final year of the Educational Administration (EDA) EdD program. The instructor¿s assistance and feedback are formative in nature, with final approval of the DiP resting with the student¿s advisor and committee. The DiP is focused on school improvement and equity. In this project, students work individually or in small teams on an advisor approved Problem of Practice (PoP), identifying challenges in their contexts and proposing solutions using improvement science. Students are encouraged to visit CPED¿s Dissertation in Practice resource center and view sample DiPs. Focused by a lens of justice on a Problem of Practice, a DiP is the scholarship that yields generative impacts on the practice of educational leadership and the aims of educational improvement. Unlike a traditional PhD dissertation that is often written for a restricted community of scholars, the DiP is directed at a wider audience, one that is focused on practitioners. In other words, your findings will have real-world applicability for professionals working in varied educational settings.
