ELP 618SEM - Sociology of Higher Education

Higher education is a broad field and sociology provides an important and unique perspective with which to view the field. The purpose of the course is to expose students to sociological theories and perspectives and to apply these to current and past issues in higher education. In this course students will examine the ways that sociologists have framed the study of higher education, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each frame, and consider how well these frameworks explain educational problems in higher education.
