ELP 534SEM - Critical Issues in Higher Education This course will focus on the critical issues and current trends facing American higher education today. Students will explore selected topics at the system, federal, state, and campus levels and will be expected to critically analyze the impacts on college students, faculty, staff and administration. Topics include: (1) Access, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; (2) Accountability and Compliance; (3) Athletics; (4) Changing Demographics; (5) Declining Completion Rates; and (6) Rising Costs and Financing Higher Education. This course is structured as a seminar and students will be expected to fully participate in the weekly discussions and be prepared to work with other students to develop and submit a critical issue summary report and to provide an overview of the report to the entire class. Credits: 3
