ELP 543LEC - Economics of Education

Economic issues in education (e.g. funding, spending, and distribution of monies) are addressed, but the main focus is learning about econometric analyses of education. The course will benefit students who want to better understand economic issues in education and econometric evaluation methods, including students planning careers in educational administration, policy, evaluation, or academia. Class sessions will examine popular policy issues (e.g. class size or charter schools) and how we can learn whether they are effective. Students should leave the course with a broad contextual understanding of the relationship between economics and education and a deep conceptual understanding of statistical issues used to evaluate this relationship, particularly the quasi-experimental methods commonly used in evaluating programs and policies.
