ELP 615SEM - Critical Race Theory in Higher Education

The goal of this course is to provide an overview and history of Critical Race Theory (CRT) as a useful framework for our work in education, particularly, but not exclusively in higher education. The course examines the framework as it developed in the field of education and how it has been advanced in law, sociology, social welfare, geography, public health, and the humanities. In education, Critical Race Theory has been defined as an explanatory framework or set of basic perspectives, methods, and pedagogy that explicates the role of race and racism in education and that works toward identifying and challenging racism as part of a larger goal of identifying and challenging all forms of subordination.
