ENG 623SEM - Studies in Rhetoric In this course, students will examine everyday objects and practices from a rhetorical perspective. How can the tools and history of rhetoric be brought to bear on things that we take for granted? How might everyday objects be regarded as persuasive? Our investigation will include foundational texts in rhetoric in order to assemble a toolbox for analysis, and also texts that deal with everyday-ness from perspectives that elaborate rhetorical engagement. So, first we will move through a broad introduction to rhetorical studies, and then focus in on the everyday. Credits: 3
