GEO 551LEC - Cartography and Geog Viz


This course examines current issues in cartography and geographic visualization (GVIS), focusing on the use of maps and other visual representations to facilitate thinking, problem solving, and decision making in geography. The lectures in this course focus on the history and conceptual background of cartography and GVIS, visual functions and forms, and topics such as interface design, animation, multimedia, hypermedia, color, sound, multivariate displays, terrain, etc. Some instructors may elect to have a laboratory session to provide hands-on experience in constructing basic cartographic visualization tools with various hardware devices and software packages. Currently this is done during class time. This course is dual-listed with GEO 485.
