JDS 729SEM - Virtue Ethics in Abrahamic Religions Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics is one of the most influential texts on Jewish, Christian and Islamic ethics. Aristotle developed a model of ethics that emphasized character, virtue, flourishing and the good life. Philosophers and theologians in each of the three Abrahamic traditions have worked to reconcile a virtue based ethics with the idea of a divine lawgiver. This course will study the Nicomachean Ethics and then read Jewish, Christian and Islamic responses to it. Credits: 3
