LAI 577LEC - Technology in Special Education Over 80% of students with disabilities spend more than 50% of their time in the general education classroom. General educators now more than ever need to be familiar with effective strategies to increase access to the general education curriculum. This course will provide an overview of computer-based technologies including legislative mandates as they relate to the teaching and learning of all students as well as the use of assistive technology and concepts of universal design for learning to facilitate the successful integration of individuals with disabilities. Selection, modification, and classroom use of technology to improve or bypass physical, sensory, communicative, learning, and social limitation will be explored. The course will also examine ways in which technology may be used as a tool to facilitate changes in the ways teachers teach and students learn, and ultimately to stimulate reform in education Credits: 3
