NLH 640LAB - Practicum in Health Care Systems and Leadership


This practicum affords the student the opportunity to integrate leadership, management, and organizational theory, and develop skills that will result in the provision of quality patient care by a health care system while mentored by a nursing leader. Objectives, specific competencies and outcomes that govern the scope of practice of the nurse leader and manager will be identified for development based upon the student¿s career goals. Managerial and leadership skills will be developed while assisting the organization to achieve strategic outcomes consistent with the aims of cost, quality and improved patient experience of care and the goals determined by the mentor, faculty and student Upon completion of 300 hours of practica, students are expected to produce a final project/paper related to the accomplishments of career and goal competencies. Students will develop a final project paper related to accomplishment of the goals, with a final summative document required that integrates the literature related to the project(s), any data analysis or evaluation conducted, and describing and evaluating the end product.

Requisites: Co-Requisite: NUR 502 and NUR 638.
