NUS 710SEM - Interpretive Phenomenology


This is a course in interpretive phenomenology and hermeneutics as a method of advanced qualitative research. Readings from philosophers, Heidegger and Gadamer situate the methods in a philosophy of science. Introduction to steps in conducting Hiedeggerian Hermeneutic research studies including: developing research question, defining the participants, developing interview questions, transcribing the interview, analyzing the texts using team approach, and reporting study findings. Discussion of rigor and integrating critical social, feminist and postmodern theories in extending interpretations.
