PER 832LEC - Surgical Perio Therapy PER 832 “Surgical Periodontal Therapy” is a continuation of PER 831 “Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy”. PER 831 focused on the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment planning and non-surgical treatment of different forms of periodontal disease including chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, necrotizing forms of periodontal disease, and the gingival and oral manifestations of autoimmune diseases. PER 832 focuses on the surgical treatment of periodontal disease and is designed to prepare you to understand periodontal surgical treatment options including gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, modified Widman flap, positioned flaps, mucogingival surgery, crown lengthening, periodontal regeneration, osseous surgery and osseous grafting. Topics are organized in order of the typical sequence of periodontal therapy and in order of increasing complexity of surgical procedure. This course follows on and assumes knowledge from the first two and a half years of dental school. Satisfactory completion of PER 831 is a prerequisite for PER 832. PER 832 consists of 15 lecture sessions with required reading assignments, 4 or more unannounced quizzes, 1 midterm examination and 1 final examination Credits: 1
