This seminar looks in depth at particular historical philosophical efforts to use rigorous techniques, such as logic, probability, or related formal frameworks to make progress on philosophical questions. These approaches were often progenitors of modern approaches in philosophical logic, epistemology, philosophy of language, science, computation, and allied fields, and have had lasting influence across philosophy and other disciplines.
