RPG 603SEM - Basic Grantsmanship and Ethical Conduct of Research This course prepares graduate students to advance to candidacy in the biomedical sciences and to prepare grant applications. The course covers the anatomy of a scientific research grant; ethics associated with preparation of a grant application and review; and techniques and assignments in grant writing and the peer-review process for federal grant applications. The course is intended to be taken by doctoral students as they prepare to advance to candidacy through a preliminary exam or other measures as approved by their academic program. Skills in grantsmanship will be developed through practical assignments. Workshops and review sessions will provide written feedback on key components such as the NIH biosketch, Specific Aims, and Significance sections. Participation of the students major advisor is required for some assignments. Restricted to doctoral students eligible to take Preliminary Exam in the same academic year. Credits: 2
