TH 610SEM - Performance Research

This course introduces students to the current discourse of theatre and performance studies and offers ways for students to enter into the conversation of their particular area. In this course, students develop the research and writing skills necessary for success in graduate school and the professional sphere, whether in academic or professional theatre. The course is thus balanced between theories and methods of research, applicable not only to scholarly work but also to production work in MFA training and professional theatre; and the practical tools needed to effectively and efficiently execute that research. Students also gain an overview of the profession, including relevant organizations, conferences, and journals for their theater performance interests and learn how to gear their writing toward a particular audience. Faculty from the different areas of the department will present on their areas of research and practice, noting the particular methodologies within various (and sometimes rather diverse) areas of theatre studies.
