URP 578SEM - Environmental Planning Methods for Sustainability

Environmental Planning Methods for Sustainability identifies issues with attention to methods for preventing and ameliorating environmental problems. The problems addressed in Environmental Planning Methods for Sustainability include those caused by interactions with the natural environment from human activities that can be addressed at the local level, where most environmental planning efforts occur. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the process and skills necessary for implementing plans to solve environmental problems through specific environmental planning and sustainable development techniques. The acquisition of knowledge, understanding, and skill development occurs through reviewing project-specific environmental documents, direct observation of existing physical conditions through field trips and site visits, led by faculty and involved local professionals implementing environmental planning methods, and assigned student projects.
