ERT 325LLB - Geophysics Introduces the fundamental concepts required to understand the scientific basis for plate tectonics, including deep Earth structure and theories of mantle convection. Describes major whole-Earth geophysical techniques (active-source seismology, earthquake seismology, gravity, magnetics, heat flow, resistivity and EM measurements). Uses general examples as well as specific case studies to support current tectonic theories. Practical application and hands-on use of seismic, gravity, magnetic instrumentation and shallow radar take place in labs. Requires labs.
