PHI 425LEC - Philosophy and Intelligence Analysis

Philosophy Intelligence Analysis is an interdisciplinary endeavor that synergizes age-old philosophical tenets with the contemporary nuances of intelligence analysis. At its core, the course delves into the philosophical underpinnings that shape intelligence paradigms, grappling with quintessential queries about knowledge, truth, ethics, and decision-making within the intelligence sphere. Unlike conventional philosophy courses that remain abstract, this course anchors philosophical discussions in the real-world challenges and opportunities of intelligence operations. Philosophical theories, in this setting, aren’t just contemplative but are wielded as tools to decipher, assess, and enhance intelligence processes. Throughout the term, students will critically examine a spectrum of topics from the digital battlegrounds of future wars to the ontology of terrorism and the ethical implications of artificial intelligence in espionage. Engaging with both classical philosophical literature and cutting-edge intelligence research, participants will cultivate an adeptness in not just understanding but also in evaluating and innovating within the expansive field of intelligence. By the culmination of the course, students are equipped and inspired to conceptualize and advocate their own philosophically-informed perspectives on pressing intelligence dilemmas.
