MUS 422STU - Percussion Methods This course is designed for students in the MusB Performance program who intend to pursue the combined degree program in Music Education with the Graduate School of Education. It provides an in-depth exploration of percussion instruments, including snare drum, bass drum, timpani, mallet percussion (xylophone, marimba, vibraphone), and auxiliary percussion (triangle, tambourine, cymbals, etc.). Emphasis is placed on developing fundamental techniques, pedagogical strategies, and practical skills necessary for teaching and performing on each percussion instrument. Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of percussion instruments, their unique characteristics, pedagogical challenges, and strategies for teaching the instruments to beginning musicians.
