COM 250LEC - Media Literacy in the Age of AI This course explores key theories of mass communication and foundational media literacy concepts, spotlighting how AI-driven tools-from social media algorithms to generative AI technologies-are reshaping message creation, dissemination, and interpretation. Grounded in core communication principles, it critically examines the ethical, social, and cultural implications of AI’s role in shaping online discourse, enabling deepfake technology, and fueling political microtargeting. By fostering the development of media literacy, students gain the critical thinking skills necessary to analyze AI-mediated content, confront misinformation, and produce responsible media. Balancing theoretical insights, ethical debates, and hands-on applications, this course prepares students to become informed, ethical communicators and media consumers in an increasingly AI-driven world.
