BCH 519LEC - Bioinformatics & Comp Bio

This course will introduce graduate students to the principles and practices of bioinformatics. It will address computational analysis of DNA and protein sequences, analysis of next-generation sequencing datasets such as RNA-seq and ChIP-seq, and proteomics. It is assumed that students have a basic understanding of genetics and molecular biology (see below). Computational analysis will be done by using Python 3 and R programming languages. Prior exposure to Linux and these programming languages is desired. Dual listed with BCH 419. Cross listed with GGB 519. For those students without these experiences, it is strongly recommended that they acquire a basic understanding of Python 3 and R prior to the start of the class by following some of these tutorials. ? https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/index.html ? https://www.w3schools.com/python/default.asp ? https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/python-programming-language ? https://www.w3schools.com/r/ ? https://www.statmethods.net/r-tutorial/index.html ? https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/r-tutorial/ Credits: 3
