MIC 516LEC - Fundamentals of Bacteriology


This is a graduate level course focusing on the fundamentals of bacteria and bacterial pathogenesis. The course will cover basic features of bacterial cells, the tools that are commonly used to generate mutant strains of bacteria, an overview of commensalism vs pathogenesis, ways in which bacteria interact with each other and with a host, and common antibacterial agents as well as development of antimicrobial resistance. This course will also include presentation and discussion of scientific papers in the field of bacteriology. Credits: 3

Requisites: Pre-Requisite: BCH 503 or (BMS 515 and BMS 516) or MIC 501 B- or better.
