AHI 524SEM - Studies in Italian Baroque Art

This course will concentrate on developments in Central and Northern Italy from ca. 1580 to 1650. Special attention will be given to the formulation of a Baroque style in Rome during these years. The role of Artemisia Gentileschi, Caravaggio, the Carracci and Bernini, for example, will be explored with an eye to investigating the patronage and principle ideas that their art represented.
