LAI 674TUT - Seminar in Teaching

Through this course students are provided a focused opportunity to reflect weekly on student teaching experiences, supported as they explore their professional identities as beginning teachers, and assisted in the certification process and job search. These three purposes are met through small-group discussions (approximately 8 students) facilitated by the group¿s Teacher Education Associate (TEA) as well as through large-group presentations led by individuals and panels of speakers. This course is taken in conjunction with student teaching in the initial teacher certification program. It builds on the field experience course and provides a space for professional development wherein students participate in the following: Explore the ways in which previous coursework relates to student teaching in order to identify best practices that produce and reflect contemporary theories of education for diverse student populations; Reflect critically on the student teaching experience with other student teachers; Strengthen professional relationships; and Develop further a sense of self as a professional educator. Prerequisite: Approval of Student Teaching Application; Co-requisites: Supervised Teaching I & II (LAI 668 & LAI 595).
