LAW 668LEC - Civil RICO This course is about the civil provisions of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The purpose of the course is to provide a thorough understanding of the history and background of RICO, the underlying statutory provisions which provide the legal basis for RICO claims and the necessary elements of RICO claims which are required for successfully pleading and litigating such claims. In addition to gaining an understanding of the means by which RICO claims are litigated, including class actions. intended learning outcomes include the ability to evaluate RICO cases not only as the lawyer prosecuting the case for the plaintiff, but also as the lawyer defending the case for the defendant.
