LAW 781LEC - Comparative Law

A basic understanding of the world’s major legal traditions and varying legal cultures is increasingly essential to numerous areas of public and private law practice. This course provides an introduction to comparative law. Through focused ethnographic case studies, it will also consider the convergence and divergence of legal systems, and look at varying responses to common problems such as crime and immigration control. The course will combine lecture and seminar formats and students may write a sustained final research paper or a number of shorter papers.
