LAW 786SEM - U.S. Supreme Court and Public Policy


This seminar examines the role of the U.S. Supreme Court in public policy, and how constitutional interpretation affects and impacts policy making. The course will explore normative and scholarly debates on judicial activism and constitutional interpretation, theories of judicial politics, judicial impact, and critical approaches. Substantively, the course will explore the broader political and policy context of the Court’s decisions in several areas including: executive power, civil rights, abortion, LGBTQ rights, election law and voting rights, immigration, and affirmative action.
