IE 310LEC - Computational Tools for Industrial Engineers This course introduces students to two powerful computational tools frequently employed by Industrial Engineers: Microsoft Excel and Python. Students will become proficient using the solver and goal-seek functionality in Excel for optimization problems, as well as pivot tables for data analysis. Analogous optimization and analysis tools in Python will also be introduced, including the numpy and pandas libraries. Databases and structured query language (SQL) will be briefly introduced. Hands-on examples will be drawn from applications in production systems, operations research, signal processing, probability, and linear algebra (including systems of equations). Homework assignments will involve solving problems often encountered by industrial engineers, using both Excel and Python.
