CE 370LEC - Introduction to Nuclear Engineering Fundamental nuclear science and engineering concepts forming the basis of contemporary nuclear technologies, including basic atomic and nuclear physics, special relativity, nuclear models and stability, nuclear reactions, radioactive decay processes, and neutron moderation and diffusion. Characteristics of nuclear radiation, and its detection, measurement, and interactions with matter. Nuclear safety, risk, regulation, and policy. Overview of reactor systems and materials, fuel production, biological effects of radiation, radioactive waste management, and fusion science and technology. A variety of practical and emerging applications are examined.
