IMC 533 - Homeostasis 2: Renal & Gastro This course is designed to provide knowledge of the normal function and disease processes which affect the gastrointestinal tract and kidney and urinary tract. This includes integration of anatomical, histologic, physiologic, biochemical, microbiologic, pharmacologic, and pathologic information along with clinical manifestations of disease processes. They should be able to explain the value of imaging and diagnostic testing in the above systems and learn to use critical thinking and problem- solving skills to form differential diagnoses of disorders of these systems. Students should review basic science concepts presented in the Foundation Modules I and II as they proceed through this course. Strategies for the maintenance of gastrointestinal and renal health and prevention of disease will be woven throughout the course. The course incorporates a variety of instructional methods including lectures, patient presentations, case-based inquiry learning, and problem sessions to promote application of key principles.
