IMC 804 - Integrated Science Selectives

The Integrated Science Selectives (ISS) will integrate the science and practice of a defined topic  by incorporating both classroom-based and experiential or applied learning that occur sequentially or blended. The classroom-based component will focus on the foundational underpinnings of the defined topic. Foundational content may include basic, clinical, public health, social, behavioral, health systems and/or informatics science. A variety of pedagogies will be used, including but not limited to: team-based learning (TBL), case-based learning (CBL), interactive lecture/large group sessions, and patient care instruction in the clinical setting.

Through these varied approaches/methods in the classroom-based component,  students will gain insight and experience working with faculty who are involved in both clinical and research- focused innovations in medicine. During the experiential or applied component of the ISSs, students will engage in meaningful clinical, healthcare system, or community experiences that bring to life the foundational topics and allow for direct application of the foundational topics through workplace learning. The clinical, system, and community experiences are not purely observational but rather include active student involvement in patient care, projects, or assigned tasks.
