Education Leadership and Policy for Equity Minor (ELPE) Overview

Complex twenty-first century problems underscore the importance of knowledge educational equity and justice. Thoughtfully developed and authentic educational leadership and policy skills are integral to this knowledge base. This minor offers a unique focus on developing such skills in conjunction with critical engagement around sociopolitical, cultural, and economic issues that affect equity in schools, colleges, and communities in today’s interconnected society. This minor provides students the opportunity to study through coursework and experiential learning topics including, but not limited to the following: race, gender, and class inequality; poverty and homelessness; immigrant and refugee education; higher educational access; school-community partnerships; and violence prevention. This minor is open to all majors; however, given its interdisciplinary focus, it might be of particular interest to students in anthropology, business, global gender and sexuality studies, history, political science, social sciences interdisciplinary, social work, and sociology. Importantly, ELP 201  , a required ELPE minor experiential course, is also an approved Honors College course.
