History Minor


Course Requirements


Six HIS Courses (18 credits)


A minimum of 3 courses must be at the 300-400 level.

UB Seminar courses cannot count towards minor.

Academic Requirements


  • A minimum grade of C- is required in any minor course. S/U and P/F are not applicable towards minor requirements.
  • A course used to fulfill a requirement for a major or minor in another subject may not also fulfill a requirement for the history minor.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • A maximum of 2 transfer, cross-listed, or petitioned courses may be counted toward the history minor.

  • Develop research tools: how to pose questions, obtain evidence, identify gaps in the historical record.
  • Assess and challenge historical narratives and viewpoints.
  • Display disciplined analysis of primary and secondary sources.
  • Compare regions and time periods.
  • Learn how to become a persuasive writer.
  • Cultivate oral communication: how to present research findings clearly, and analyze primary and secondary sources in discussion.
