Notes
- Students can also obtain an Advanced Certificate with a successful completion of further 15 economics credits at the master’s degree level.
- Approved required and elective courses depend on specific focus students choose within the MS (STEM) program. Please contact the Director of Master’s Program or the Assistant Director of the MS program for details.
- ECO 380 may be substituted with MTH 411 /STA 301 and STA 301 together with MTH 412 /STA 302 and STA 302 , or GEO 211 , or CIE 308 .
- ECO 505, ECO 507, and ECO 576 may be substituted with ECO 405 , ECO 407 , and ECO 406 , respectively, with the permission of the Director of the MA program. A waiver exam may be taken for ECO 580 and ECO 581. Please contact the Assistant Director of the MA program for details.
Academic Requirements
Academic Requirements for BA:
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.000
- A minimum Economics GPA of 2.500
Academic Requirements for MS:
- A minimum Economics GPA of 3.000
- Passing the Microeconomics Comprehensive Exam and the Macroeconomics Comprehensive Exam
Program Honors
The Department of Economics nominates majors who have completed (1) MTH 141 , (2) MTH 142 , (3) ECO 406 , and (4) cumulative GPA in economics courses is at least 3.25 (Honors), 3.50 (High Honors) or 3.75 (Highest Honors) for the Departmental Honors Program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of all of the requirements of the BA in Economics, the student will:
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of the basic principles and terminology of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics.
- Demonstrate the ability to read, evaluate, and interpret general economic information.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand and apply basic statistics.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of the subject areas covered by the elective courses.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral forms.
