Benvenuti! Would you like to be fluent in one of the world’s most-studied languages? Do you enjoy studying the culture that shaped historic thinkers such as Michelangelo, Dante and Montessori? Are you interested in learning more about Italy’s world-renowned contributions to food, design and architecture? If you want to master the language spoken by more than 60 million people around the globe-from Switzerland and the U.S. to Canada, Australia and Brazil-then UB’s Italian program might be the perfect fit.

Introductory Language Core (0-16 credits)*
Select one of the following Introductory Italian sequences:
Seven Italian Electives (21 credits)

*Students are required to complete Introductory Language Core courses unless some or all are waived by the Department based on demonstrated proficiency. Students with absolutely no prior instruction in Italian may enroll in ITA 111 . The introductory sequence consists of four courses: Elementary I, Elementary II, Intermediate I, and Intermediate II
Total Credits Required for Major: 27-43
Additional Degree Requirements Include:
- Additional coursework to fulfill UB Curriculum requirements
- Elective courses as needed to complete the 120 credit hour total

Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This should not be used for financial aid purposes.
Academic Requirements
Students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.000 in all Italian coursework for successful completion of the major.
Students who have taken no Italian before coming to UB will need to complete ITA 101 and ITA 102 before enrolling in ITA 151 and ITA 151 . Students who have studied some Italian but who need a refresher course will need to complete ITA 104 before enrolling in ITA 151 and ITA 151 .
Transfer Credit Policy
The department’s residency requirement stipulates that at least 50% of required credits for a major or minor be completed via Italian courses taken on campus.
