Admission Criteria

Current UB students interested in the Child Advocacy Studies micro-credential, submit the Micro-Credential - Application Form.

Course Requirements

Child Advocacy Studies Core (9 credits)

SW 225LEC - Perspectives on Child Maltreatment and Advocacy Credits: 3
SW 235LEC - Do we really care about kids? Rethinking child welfare in the U.S. Credits: 3
SW 245LEC - Global Child Advocacy Issues Credits: 3

Students must also submit:

A program portfolio
An integrative reflection statement
Obtain written testimonial from program coordinator

Total Credits Required for Micro-Credential: 9

Academic Requirements

To earn a micro-credential, students must have a minimum of a B grade in all required courses.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the micro-credential in Child Advocacy Studies, students will be able to:

Utilize setting-appropriate observational evidence and critical thinking to recognize signs of child maltreatment and effectively file reports to proper authorities.
Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams to respond to child maltreatment, including investigation, family services, legal proceedings, and meeting children’s needs.
Recognize the intercultural factors that influence child well-being and maltreatment across the globe, and apply culturally competent responses to diverse families.
